Cagney & Lacey
Cagney and Lacey aired on CBS from October 1982 through May 1988 and included 125 episodes over 7 seasons. Four made-for-television movies based on the series (collectively called "The Menopause Years") aired between 1994 and 1996.
The series stars Sharon Gless as NYPD Detective Chris Cagney and Tyne Daly as her partner, Detective Mary Beth Lacey.
The pilot for the series, which aired in 1981, stars Loretta Swit as Chris Cagney, who was replaced by Meg Foster playing the role of Chris Cagney for the first 6 episodes of the series before it was assumed by Sharon Gless. The series was canceled after the second season but fan reaction caused the network to reverse course and order a shortened third season.
The DVD subtitled "The True Beginning" and indicated as the first season is actually the second season of the series (omitting the pilot and episodes that star Meg Foster).
